WHO WORKS HERE?
Unit 2.3 First Grade (Reading Street)

It was fun reading about people in our community. The kids had many stories to share about people they see in the community. Many students had visited a firestation or police station and were happy to learn that even their TEACHERS are people in their community!

HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS:

2.3 High Frequency Cards

We've been practicing A-B-C order, so I made this sheet for some extra practice with this week's words.

SPELLING:

2.3 who works here spelling cards

This week, I created a spelling sort sheet to do with the students at my teacher table:

2.3 spelling sort

After we were done talking about our spelling words, they were ready to build those words in a small group at my teacher table. I gave the students a cookie sheet with magnetic letters and had them put the letters  r, d, t, m, b, k, l   on the bottom of their cookie sheet. On the top of their cookie sheet I had them place their building mat (Elkonian Box). I gave them the word and they would build it.

We made a list of words (as we built each one) and wrote them on the board.

WH, CH, TCH, PH:

This is a TWO page document with the digraphs and a page of words. I went over each of the digraphs and their sounds. Then, I used these words to put into my pocket chart. The students read the words and sorted them into the correct category.

Author's Purpose:

I got this cute sheet from http://candauscrew.blogspot.com/2011/07/authors-purpose.html (Sailing Through First Grade)

Long i:

I used this as an independant center. The students sort words into short /i/ and long i (CVCe).
