Poetry Packets are a great way to build fluency in young readers. When reading short poems, children aquire word knowledge and are able to read them with confidence and expression.

At my teacher table each day, I introduce the Word-of-the Day. These words usually have something to do with the season, holiday, or things children would see each day. We talk about the word and talk about any phonics rules the word may contain. Then, we talk about where or when we would see this word.

Each month, the packet has a cover with the student's name on it. They color and decorate to make it their own.
